Lea, Apprentice

Industrial clerk

Hi, I'm Lea. I'm 18 years old and am nearing the end of my first year of business training at AAT. I like to spend my free time riding my shared horse or hanging out with my friends.

Hi Lea, why don't you tell us what a typical workday is like for you as an apprentice?

Right now, I’m working in the Service Department. In the morning, I arrive at work between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. and start by checking the emails in my inbox and answering any questions customers may have. After that, I work on my apprenticeship tasks or write in my report notebook. Throughout the day, my coworkers also send me tasks that I can already handle on my own. My training supervisor in the Service Department also shows me new or different processes every day, for which I then write up instructions. Among other things, I also answer calls and do my best to answer customers’ questions over the phone; if I need help, my colleagues are always there to answer my questions. In between, I take my lunch break around noon and then head home between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m.

What has been your best experience at AAT so far?

I can’t single out just one great experience, but I especially enjoyed our internal 30th-anniversary celebration, which we trainees organized together. Or the Christmas party, where everyone got together. In everyday life, there are also many small, wonderful moments—like when you were able to handle a task on your own for the first time, or when you were able to help a customer over the phone.

Would you tell us a bit about the course of your training in relation to the company and school lessons and how the two areas can be combined?

I always have vocational school twice a week, in which the theoretical topics relating to the company tasks are clarified.

Many topics can be directly linked between school and the company as they are very similar. In the company, we actively "perform" the tasks that we learn in theory at school.

Have you already thought about what you would like to do after your apprenticeship?

Since I really enjoy the work here, get along well with everyone, and generally feel very comfortable here, I would be very happy if I were offered a position after completing my apprenticeship.

What strengths or qualities should you have as an apprentice at AAT?

  • Interest in the profession
  • Willingness to learn
  • Receptivity

Is there anything final that you would like to share with the readers of this interview? 😉

Training at AAT is worthwhile. The colleagues, the atmosphere and the flexibility make training here a pleasant place and the input you receive here can help you a lot in the future.
